Motion Control Dance - Every Body Moves Club of the Month, June 2026
Motion Control Dance named Every Body Moves Club of the Month, June 2026
We've just found out that ParalympicsGB has named Motion Control Dance their Every Body Moves powered by Toyota Club of the Month for June, and I'm still taking a moment to let that sink in. This award, presented by ParalympicsGB and Disability Sport Wales, recognises clubs across the UK doing the work of putting disabled and non-disabled people on the same dance floor, in the same class, moving to the same music, and being seen as equals in the room rather than accommodated as an afterthought.
Sam Griffiths, our Disability and Inclusion Coordinator, put it simply when she spoke to the team about why this way of working matters: dance is something everyone can bring their own style and their own flavour to, and staying open to how each person expresses that is what lets us welcome more people in. That's the thread running through every class we run, from the weekly integrated sessions where wheelchair and standing technique are taught side by side, through to the outreach work we take into schools and community venues across the Vale of Glamorgan.
Mollie, one of our participants and dance leaders, told ParalympicsGB that the class has become a place where she's made lots of friends, and that being part of it has helped her build skills and perform in places she never expected to. That's the kind of outcome we set out chasing twenty five years ago, and it's still what gets me out of bed on the hard days.
Siân Thomas, the first disabled Mayor of Barry, joined us for the award handover and spoke about how close this cause is to her heart, wanting everybody to have access to movement so that nobody feels alone. Leif Thobroe from Disability Sport Wales, who supported the award, said clubs like ours show what's possible when accessibility sits at the heart of an organisation rather than around its edges.
Thank you to ParalympicsGB, Every Body Moves, Toyota and Disability Sport Wales for this recognition, and thank you to every dancer, family member, and volunteer who has helped build a space in Barry where every body genuinely does belong on the floor. You can read the full feature over on the Every Body Moves website, and if this is the first you're hearing of us, come and find out what our studio actually looks like.
