All thanks to Shared Prosperity Funding from the UK Government
Motion Control Dance is thrilled to announce the launch of its innovative new programme, Mature in Motion, designed specifically to support the physical, emotional, and social well-being of older adults. Funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Levelling Up Fund, this programme is aimed at creating inclusive dance and movement opportunities for individuals aged 55 and over, helping them stay active, engaged, and connected.
As part of its ongoing mission to make dance accessible to everyone, Motion Control Dance has developed Mature in Motion to encourage older people in the Vale of Glamorgan community to explore the joys of movement in a fun, welcoming environment. Through a series of carefully tailored classes, the programme aims to improve participants’ physical health, boost their confidence, and enhance their overall well-being.
Supporting Older Adults Through Movement
Mature in Motion is more than just a dance programme—it’s a celebration of active aging. Recognising the importance of movement for maintaining physical and mental health, this initiative helps older adults improve their mobility, balance, and coordination while providing an opportunity to socialise and make new friends.
The programme offers a wide range of movement-based activities designed to suit different fitness levels and abilities, ensuring that everyone can participate comfortably. From gentle stretches and rhythm-based exercises to seated dance and group movement, each session is crafted to accommodate participants' needs and preferences.
Emma Mallam, Founding Director of Motion Control Dance, shared her enthusiasm for the programme:"Mature in Motion is a fantastic way for older adults to stay active and enjoy the benefits of dance, no matter their level of experience or ability. We’re committed to making these classes accessible and enjoyable for everyone, whether they’re seasoned dancers or trying something new."
The Role of the Shared Prosperity Levelling Up Fund
The success of Mature in Motion has been made possible thanks to the Shared Prosperity Levelling Up Fund, a government initiative designed to reduce inequality and create opportunities for communities across the UK. This funding is part of a wider effort to ensure that everyone, regardless of age or background, can access activities that promote health, well-being, and community connection.
By supporting programmes like Mature in Motion, the Shared Prosperity Fund is helping to address some of the challenges faced by older adults, such as social isolation, inactivity, and limited access to wellness activities. Motion Control Dance is proud to be part of this initiative and is committed to delivering impactful, community-focused programmes that improve the quality of life for older adults.

The Benefits of Dance for Older Adults
The physical and emotional benefits of dance are well-documented, and these benefits are particularly important for older adults. Dance is a low-impact activity that promotes cardiovascular health, increases strength, and improves flexibility, all while being gentle on the joints. It also helps improve balance and coordination, which are essential for preventing falls and maintaining mobility as people age.
But the benefits of Mature in Motion go beyond the physical. The programme offers older adults a chance to connect with others, fostering social engagement that can help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation. Participants are encouraged to share their stories, support one another, and form new friendships, creating a sense of community that is vital for emotional well-being.
A participant in the Mature in Motion programme, 72-year-old woman, shared her experience:"I’ve always loved to dance, but I never thought I’d be able to do it at my age. The classes are so much fun, and I’ve met some wonderful people. It’s great to feel active again, and I look forward to every session!"

A Holistic Approach to Aging Well
Mature in Motion is grounded in the belief that movement is for everyone, regardless of age or ability. Through its holistic approach, the programme not only addresses physical health but also encourages creativity, self-expression, and emotional resilience. Each session is designed to uplift and energize participants, helping them feel more connected to their bodies and the world around them.
By incorporating elements of music, rhythm, and creativity, the classes are as much about having fun as they are about staying fit. Motion Control Dance’s team of trained instructors bring energy and compassion to each session, ensuring that participants feel supported, motivated, and inspired.
Looking to the Future
The launch of Mature in Motion is just the beginning of Motion Control Dance’s efforts to provide meaningful, inclusive dance experiences for older adults. Thanks to the Shared Prosperity Levelling Up Fund, the charity will continue to expand the programme, offering more sessions in various locations across the Vale of Glamorgan.
Emma Mallam added:"We’re incredibly grateful for the support of the Shared Prosperity Levelling Up Fund, which allows us to bring the Mature in Motion programme to life. We’re excited to see how it will continue to grow and reach more people who can benefit from movement and dance. Our goal is to empower older adults to stay active, connected, and confident in their everyday lives."
