Big Barry Dance
Motion Control Dance has worked in partnership with Cadoxton Primary School since 2014 on the BIG BARRY DANCE legacy. A whole school initiative to engage all members of the school community of students, staff & parents to express and enjoy themselves through dance.
This project began with an Arts Council of Wales grant for Motion Control Dance to create a shared dance experience based on Ashely Banjo’s Big Town Dance. 3 Primary schools in Barry took part in the project – Cadoxton, Romily and Barry Island. Working with over 1000 studhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUbc71zlPIgents in just one month, Dance tutors Emma Mallam and Yasmin Harcourt worked wonders to get everyone ‘Dancing in the Streets’!
It then developed into an annual project at Cadoxton Primary school working on themes of Cultures Around the World and the Rio Olympics.
Another Arts Council of Wales funded project saw 4 local primary schools create their own performance based pieces based upon the theme of Transformation with the dance club from a local secondary school creating a piece that they would perform with the students who were transitioning to high school later on that year.
Another Big Barry Dance saw Cadoxton and High Street Primary students create their own version of The Greatest Showman.
Last year saw High Street Primary create a whole school performance piece based on Our World inspired by David Attenborough and the songs from Disney – everyone had fun in the sun even though the message of Saving Our World was very powerful.
