LMDC has been training hard over the past few years to be more technical dancers and performing at events across the UK. We are so pleased they have become the first disability dance youth group in the Vale of Glamorgan. It started with the company performing their Alice in Wonderland piece at Sadlers Wells and got through to the semi finals of the Welsh Factor in 2017.
Local Motion Dance Company (LMDC) were invited to perform at the annual Encore Weekend hosted by the United Dance Organisation (UDO). This event is attended by different dance schools from around the UK. During the weekend different dance styles are represented through competitions, workshops and discos. Although they may have been nervous and apprehensive, they blew the audience and judges away with their beautiful dance piece ‘Birds’.
With a standing ovation and a roar of an applause there was not a dry eye in the house. The group also had great fun being the first as always to bust their moves at the nightly disco. They left leaving a lasting impression on the weekend as they were awarded the Most Inspirational Award of the weekend.
In November 2018 we took the trip back across the bridge but this time to attend as competitors in the Contemporary dance category, making Local Motion Dance Company the first disability group to compete at Encore Weekend. This time they showed a different side to them performing a dance piece based on The Hunger Games. They may not have placed but they were accepted and showed everyone that anyone can dance.
They have created a piece based on Romeo & Juliet for our annual showcase showing that they are storytellers
LMDC also performed as part of the Youth Dance Night at WMC and were interviewed for ITV News to demonstrate that dance is for everyone! Cardiff City FC are now using their piece based on ‘Being Different’ as part of the their discrimination in sport campaign in the summer of 2020.
