At Motion Control Dance our team of tutors and areas of expertise continue to expand to ensure we have something for everyone to keep us all moving no matter what our age.
We deliver creative movement sessions, Tai Chi classes and now LIFT (Low Impact Functional Training), which uses a mix of seated exercises, supported standing exercises and resistance bands to keep strengthening our muscles and work on posture and alignment.
We also specialise in working with people with dementia and our ‘Remember to Dance’ sessions invite people with dementia or health issues to attend with a member of their family or a carer and meet with others afterwards to chat over a coffee. Our programme of activity for older people reaches out to Rhoose and Llantwit Major, as well as our beautiful studio in Barry.
Last year two of our team gained certification in leading Dance for Parkinsons. This Autumn we will set up a new movement session for people in the Vale with Parkinson’s. We look forward to continuing our regular sessions in Care and Nursing Homes in Barry that we’ve worked with over the last year, and rolling out our programme of sessions for Care and Nursing Homes to improve health, mobility and the quality of living across the Vale.
In other news, as part of a Barry Making Waves commission, our Mature Movers were filmed on location this year. We look forward to filming our Tai Chi group in the coming months, hopefully while the sun shines showing no matter what your age you can enjoy dance.
Thank you to our funders for giving Motion Control Dance financial support to run these older people’s movement sessions in the Vale of Glamorgan – Vale Strong Communities Fund, GVS, CAVAMH, Foyle Foundation.
